The problems ailing Western Europe’s left are not just cyclical
The Economist | Björn Bremer
In a recent article, the Economist discusses why Western Europe’s left-wing parties are losing voters, identifying the lack of a credible vision for the future as one of the main problems. The article also cites MPIfG researcher Björn Bremer. He argues that the center-left endorsement of fiscal austerity in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis was a huge mistake and led to a convergence of party politics that left voters unable to distinguish between center-left and center-right.
