Greening Growth Models

This workshop brings together scholars to examine one of the defining challenges of our time: the tensions between deep decarbonization and the political-economic foundations of growth in capitalist states. Building on the growth models perspective, we examine how different countries’ growth strategies – shaped by key sectors, growth coalitions, and state capacities – mediate their approach to the green transition. Combining horizontal thematic debates with country case studies, the workshop asks whether sustained economic growth remains compatible with climate mitigation, and how states are navigating this high-stakes structural transformation.
