Public Lectures in Summer Semester 2025

April 30, 2025

The MPIfG has a series of lectures by eminent scholars lined up for summer semester 2025. On May 7, Jonathan White from the European Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) will speak in “The Future as a Democratic Resource.” on how beliefs about the future shape attitudes, experiences, and priorities in the present, shedding light on the relationship between democracy and the expected world of tomorrow. Valeria Pulignano from KU Leuven will present “The Politics of Unpaid Labor: How the Study of Unpaid Labor Can Help Address Inequality in Precarious Work” on June 3. In her lecture, she will demonstrate how a crucial link exists between the political dimensions of unpaid labor and its role in the emergence of new forms of precarious employment that are characterized by persistent inequalities in a context of labor market reforms and societal and technological change. On June 17, Armin von Bogdandy from the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg will draw the lecture series to a close with “European Society: Its Meaning and Its Promise.” Discussing the European constitutional basis for European integration as the foundation of a European society (Article 2 TEU), he will examine the meaning and promise of European society in light of current uncertainty.
