August saw the publication with Chicago University Press of Failure by Design: The California Energy Crisis and the Limits of Market Planning by Georg Rilinger. In his book, the former MPIfG postdoc develops a new theoretical framework for studying markets as the product of organizational planning and for understanding the limits of market design. more

On June 28, the MPIfG’s sixth alumni reception took place at the annual meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE) in Limerick. Away from the hectic activity of the conference, the reception was an opportunity for around 60 former and current MPIfG researchers to meet in a relaxed atmosphere, network, and make new connections. more

In August this year, Melike Arslan will take up a post as a lecturer at the Institute for International Management of Loughborough University London. A sociologist, who has been a postdoctoral researcher in Jens Beckert’s Economic Sociology Research Area since 2022, Arslan focuses in her research on the legal and regulatory infrastructure of market economies in comparative and international perspective. more

In September of this year, Benjamin Braun will take up a post as assistant professor of political economy at the European Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science. more

After almost two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the MPIfG, Saila Stausholm is now returning to Copenhagen to join Copenhagen Business School (CBS). more

In December 2023, Werner Eichhorst, senior researcher at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics in Bonn, stepped down from the executive board of the MPIfG’s alumni association, the Society of Friends and Former Associates. Eichhorst had been a member of the board and its spokesperson since 2013. more
