Am 1. Januar 1985 nahm das MPIfG seine Arbeit auf. Seither befasst sich das Institut mit den Möglichkeiten der Steuerung und Koordination moderner Gesellschaften – stets mit neuen, zeitgemäßen Perspektiven. Der aktuelle Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt auf der Dynamik kapitalistischer Wirtschaftsordnungen und deren Verankerung in politischen und gesellschaftlichen Prozessen. Das Symposium zum 40-jährigen Jubiläum reflektiert wesentliche Forschungsrichtungen des MPIfG aus einer externen Sicht. Es bietet eine Standortbestimmung der politökonomischen und wirtschaftssoziologischen Forschung und wagt einen programmatischen Blick in die Zukunft.

Studying Societies in Change

On January 1, 1985, the MPIfG began its work. Since then, the Institute has concerned itself with the possibilities for steering and coordinating modern societies, always from new, contemporary perspectives. The current research focus is on the dynamics of capitalist economic systems and their anchoring in political and social processes. The symposium on the occasion of the 40th anniversary reflects on the MPIfG‘s primary fields of research from an external viewpoint. It will offer an assessment of the current research landscape in political economy and economic sociology and venture a programmatic look into the future.
