The MPIfG is looking for Postdoctoral Researchers in the social sciences for the research areas Economic Sociology (Jens Beckert) and Political Economy (Lucio Baccaro). Scholars of all nationalities who successfully completed their doctoral degree no longer than three years before the starting date at the MPIfG are eligible to apply for the postdoctoral program. The application deadline is December 15, 2025.

The consequences of global warming are becoming tangible – and often deadly – for growing segments of the global population. For instance, river floods and tropical cyclones have become more frequent and destructive due to climate change. The social consequences of global warming are more subtle, as worsening environmental conditions ripple through societies and strain the social fabric. This edition, edited by Leon Wansleben, intends to inspire economic sociologists to consider climate change as a major structural force impacting whole economies, markets, and economic actors.

The MPIfG is looking for scholars from the fields of economic sociology and comparative and international political economy to join our Visiting Researchers Program in summer semester 2026, for stays generally ranging from two to twelve months. Applications are welcome from professors and researchers at postdoctoral or doctoral level from Germany or abroad who wish to pursue a project relating the MPIfG’s research program. The application deadline is October 31, 2025.
