Leibniz Prize to Jens Beckert

December 18, 2017

Jens Beckert will be awarded the 2018 Leibniz Prize. He is being honored for his work in reinvigorating the social sciences with an interdisciplinary perspective, especially in the intersection of sociology and economics - two disciplines that have long developed on largely separate paths. Beckert has been a director at the MPIfG in Cologne and head of the research area on the Sociology of Markets since 2005. Jens Beckert is the second sociologist to win the award; Helmut Willke, who won in 1994, was the first. Conferred by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and providing each recipient with up to 2.5 million euros in research funding, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize is the most prestigious research award in Germany. Jens Beckert will receive the Leibniz Prize in Berlin on March 19, 2018.
