Clara Baumann to Join University of Münster
Clara Baumann is taking up a postdoctoral position at the University of Münster in March of this year. Joining the economic geography and globalization research group of Prof. Sarah Sippel, she will both pursue her own habilitation project and teach. The group explores global economic relations from a critical and decolonial perspective, with research interests including the renegotiation of natural resources through food sovereignty to alternative futures in rural regions. For Baumann, the new role marks a seamless continuation of her work to date: In her dissertation at the International Max Planck Research School on the Social and Political Constitution of the Economy (IMPRS-SPCE) she researched Chinese investment in Colombia to explore how global capital flows transform local dependencies in the Global South. She will now bring this expertise in transnational investment relations to the research group at Münster University. Clara Baumann was an IMPRS-SPCE doctoral researcher from 2019 to 2024 and defended her dissertation in June 2025 at the University of Duisburg-Essen, where she has since been working as a postdoc at its Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST).
