Markus Lang Receives Doctorate

September 12, 2022

In July 2022, Markus Lang was awarded his doctorate at the University of Heidelberg. In his dissertation, “Boundless Protection: Legal-Technical Expertise and the Expansion of Patent Rights,” he studies the role of experts and technical artifacts and concepts in the expansion of international patent law. The guiding question in his study is how multinational companies and government agencies have successfully enforced ever more far-reaching patent protection despite continued high linguistic and institutional barriers between countries. Lang studied at the IMPRS-SPCE from 2011 to 2015 before moving to Heidelberg. He will be joining the Luskin School of Public Affairs at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) as a postdoc at the beginning of 2023.
