Marion Fourcade Awarded Siegfried Landshut Prize 2021

Marion Fourcade, External Scientific Member of the MPIfG, was presented with the Siegfried Landshut Prize 2021 by the Hamburg Institute for Social Research (HIS) during the Siegfried Landshut Lectures on June 27 of this year. The prize is awarded in memory of the German Jewish political scientist Siegfried Landshut, who was instrumental during his lifetime in establishing a historically oriented social science in Germany. Marion Fourcade, professor of sociology at the University of California, Berkeley, and director of its Social Science Matrix, is a founding director of the Max Planck Sciences Po Center on Coping with Instability in Market Societies (MaxPo) and became an External Scientific Member of the MPIfG in 2020. One focus of her research is on the role of economic science in modern societies. She is currently working on the politics of wine classification in France and the USA and exploring new forms of social inequality, morality, and profit in the digital economy. Among her most important publications is Economists and Societies: Discipline and Profession in the United States, Britain and France, 1890s to 1990s (Princeton University Press, 2009).
