July 11, 2022

Erik Neimanns, a senior researcher at the MPIfG, and co-authors Marius Busemeyer (University of Konstanz) and Julian Garritzmann (Goethe University Frankfurt), have won the Education Politics and Policy Best Book Award of the American Political Science Association (APSA). In A Loud but Noisy Signal? Public Opinion and Education Reform in Western Europe, the authors study the conditions under which public opinion influences policy-making, drawing on comprehensive cross-national survey data on public opinion on education policy as well as detailed case studies of reform processes in Germany, Sweden, Spain, and England. The book was published in 2020 by Cambridge University Press. The APSA Award Committee praised the major empirical contribution the authors’ innovative research makes to understanding the connections between public opinion and the politics of education reform. The award will be presented during this year’s APSA annual meeting in September.
