Camilla Locatelli Joins Heidelberg University
On September 1, Camilla Locatelli left the MPIfG to take up a postdoc position at the University of Heidelberg’s Max Weber Institute of Sociology, where she is part of the ERC SOCDEBT project led by Nora Waitkus, Professor of Social Structure Analysis. Funded by the European Research Council, SOCDEBT is conducting a comparative analysis of private debt across European countries. In joining the project, Locatelli is expanding her research interests, which have focused to date on state fiscal policy and fiscal surveillance. Camilla Locatelli spent a total of six years at the MPIfG. Between 2020 and 2024 she completed her PhD at its graduate school, the IMPRS-SPCE, examining in her dissertation how European fiscal surveillance ushered in a new fiscal regime and how different members states reacted under the pressure to consolidate. Following her PhD, she remained at the Institute until August 2026 as a postdoc in Martin Höpner’s Research Group on the Political Economy of European Integration.
