Philipp Golka Is Visiting Fellow at London School of Economics

Philipp Golka, a senior researcher at the MPIfG, is spending February to April 2026 as Visiting Fellow in the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science
 (LSE). He was invited to take up the position by the sociologist
Rebecca Elliott, who researches at the LSE on climate change, climate damage, and insurance. During his stay Golka will be collecting data for his new research project on climate risk as well as working on “From Beck to Backlash: Climate Change and the Sociology of Threat,” an essay developing a sociological perspective of threat in response to Ulrich Beck’s notion of the risk society. The project extends Golka’s research focus to date to include the sociological dimension of climate risk and links it with his work on financial markets and inequality. Philipp Golka has been a senior researcher in the Economic Sociology Research Area at the MPIfG since 2023. His research interests include financial markets, wealth and inequality, political economy, and economic sociology.
