February 20, 2024

The MPIfG’s Journalist in Residence between January and April this year is Petra Pinzler. After studying economics, politics, and journalism, Pinzler has been with the German weekly Die Zeit since 1994 and spent time as a correspondent in Washington, D.C., and Brussels before joining the paper’s Berlin office in 2008. She writes mainly on environmental and economic affairs. At the MPIfG she is researching ways of reimagining political and economic goals against the backdrop of planetary boundaries: What is the state’s role in the climate crisis, and what values are the coalition parties pursuing when they talk about “progress” and “justice”? Petra Pinzler has won numerous awards for her work at the intersection of economics, politics, and society, the most recent among them being the 2018 Umweltmedienpreis awarded by Environmental Action Germany (DUH).

The Journalist in Residence Fellowship is an opportunity for journalists to spend between two and three months working in a research environment at the MPIfG on their own project. The aim behind the fellowship is to strengthen the transfer of knowledge between the social sciences and society and encourage coverage of sociopolitical issues in the press and media.
