Workshop on Elite and Everyday Finance in the Global South

Fifteen researchers were invited by MPIfG alumni Guadalupe Moreno (Goethe University Frankfurt) and Tod Van Gunten (University of Edinburgh) to take part in a two-day workshop at the Institute in May 2022. The objective of “Financial Peripheries: Elite and Everyday Finance in the Global South” was to bring together current research perspectives on the sociology and political economy of money with a focus on the Global South, which has not featured prominently in the literature to date. The workshop sought to systematically explore how the microsociology of money and finance can enrich current approaches in political economy. Its findings will be the basis for a special thematic issue of the journal Finance and Society.
