How to export bibliographical information into EndNote.

Database Brief export description
Alexander Street Press Databases
  1. From the short list or a full view click the blue icon for Share  to create and export a selection of  titles.
    For one title in full view use the the  Cite- Button.
  2. In the navigation menue on the left open the Export List menue.
  3. Select Endnote and start the download with the SEND -button.
  4. You can open the file in the download window and the title will be automatically imported in EndNote.
  5. Please note: Genres might be wrong and needing corrections. Always check!
AMDigital ( Archives Direct; Eighteenth Century Journals, Empire Online)
  1. Only individual entries can be exported using the brown Citation/Export button in the full view.
  2. A new Citation Tool window opens and clicking EndNote starts the download.
  3. In the case of this database you actually in the process of downloading or after having download the file, you need to use the Endnote Import filter to import data.
  4. Please note: you need to correct data imported.
Archives Unbound (Gale)
  1. From the full view click the cite-button (“) on the top right.
  2. A pop-up window showing a citation manager and allowing to export to different systems. Select  Download RIS* for Endnote.
  3. In the download window click open to prompt import into EndNote.
Archiv der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (Katalog der Bibliothek)
  1. From the full view of an individual entry select  Speichern/Druckansicht or in English Save info
  2. In the next window select as format Literaturverwaltung (Endnote Tagged Format)  and click the green Safe -Button to start the download.
  3. In the case of this database you actually in the process of downloading or after having download the file, you need to use the Endnote Import filter to import data.
  4. Please note: you need to correct data imported.
Art Libraries Network - kubikat
  1. Select Save/Mail from the full view (or collect titles in My e-Shelf before) to export them.
  2. In the new window change the record format to Citation-Manager Export (RIS format) and click submit .
  3. You can choose open in the download window and Endnote will automatically open to import data - but you can improve data quality when saving the file on your computer and import the file into Endnote with the Kubikat.enf filter - which you can download on the save/send page. 
  4. Please check Reference Types for correctness!
Bibliography of the History of Art, BHA,
Getty Library Catalog
  1. You can only export individual items, even from the saved record list.
  2. Click the three dots on the top right of each entry to expand the menue.
  3. In the pop-up window select “ RIS ” as format and you are prompted to select the encoding (choose: UTF-8 ), before you can click “ DOWNLOAD ”.
Bielefeld Academic Search Engine, BASE
  1. Please bear in mind, that BASE combines data from different sources. So export quality varies!
  2. From the short list, select “ Exportieren ” or “ Export Record ” below the entry, and a pulldown opens, allowing you to select “ EndNote ” format to start the download.
  3. In case you are prompted to choose an import filter, select Endnote Import .
  4. When choosing to see the full view, you are changing the surface. You might geht export options there or not - it depends on the database.
Brill Journal Archive Online
  1. From an individual item click the “ Download Citation ” Button on the right hand side.
  2. Select the .enw -button to start download for EndNote
  3. In case you are prompted to choose an import filter, select Endnote Import .
  4. Data quality is very good.
Brill book databases (Brill Nijhoff e-Books, Biology E-Books Online, Book Sales Catalogues Online)
  1. From the full view of a book click in the quotation marks in the blue navigation bar to open the download menue.
  2. Select the .enw -button to start download for EndNote
  3. In case you are prompted to choose an import filter, select Endnote Import .
  4. Data quality is very good, but check references from “Books Sales Catalogues Online”.
Brill Online Primary Sources
  1. Data quality is not very good, so if you export you will always need to check and correct data!
  2. Individual entries can be exported by clicking in the quotation marks in the blue navigation bar in the full view.
  3. Data will exported in RIS format.
  4. In case you are prompted to choose an import filter, select Refman(RIS) .
Brill Online Reference Works
  1. From the full view of an entry click on the quotation marks in the blue navigation bar to open the download menue.
  2. Select “ Export to Endnote (RIS) ” to start the download.
  3. In case you are prompted to choose an import filter, select Refman(RIS) .
  4. Please note: Export is only possible from licenced reference works.
CAIRN
  1. Only individual entries can be exported without login. If you want to collect several citations you need to create a login.
  2. From the full view click CITER OU EXPORTER .
  3. A new window opens and in the bottom section select EndNote(.ENW) as option.
  4. Click open in the download window and the entries will be imported in EndNote.
  5. Data quality is very good!
Cambridge Databases
  1. From the full view or short list use the Export Citation option.
  2. In the new window select RIS in the Download option to start the download.
  3. In the browser download window select open and the selected record(s) will then be imported.
  4. Please not, that citations can only be generated from books, articles and chapters!
CiteSeer
  1. I mportant data is missing when exporting (only possible from MetaCart anyway), so better add the title manually in EndNote!
COPAC UK Union Catalog
  1. In the full view of an individual entry below bibliographical information ist a section refering to Export .
  2. The pre-selected export format already is Endnote, Zotero , so simply click Export to start download.
  3. In the browser download window select open and the selected record(s) will then be imported.
  4. Data quality is good, please still check for correctness!
CrossAsia
  1. Only individual titles can be exported after expanding the bibliographical information in the results list.
  2. Simply click the grey word RIS right below the expanded full title to start the download.
  3. Data might be incomplete and need to be checked, but full text links are included.

  1. Only individual titles can be exported. From the full view click Cite this to open the download menu.

Dimensions
  1. Only individual titles can be exported. From the full view click Export citation to open the download options.
  2. In the pop-up window select “ RIS ” to start the download.
  3. Please note, that the link to dimensions is written into the URL field, which needs to be deleted for citations.
Directory of open access books
  1. There is no download option for individual titles any more.
Ebsco (Business Source Premier, Socindex...)
  1. Export is possible from the full view of an individual record but you can also export several titles by collecting them in the folder first (by pressing the folder icon next to each relevant bibliographical entry) .
  2. Open your selection by clicking Folder at top of the screen or an individual title in clicking on its title.
  3. In the menue on the right hand side click Export .
  4. In a new window Direct Export in RIS Format …. is pre-selected, [Export to EndNote Web is also possible] click Save to start the download .
  5. You can choose open in the download window and Endnote will automatically open to import data.
  6. Please note, that reference types will not always be correct and thus information missing.
Econbiz
  1. Individual entries can be exported from the full view by clicking the grey icon for export, i.e. Square with an arrow at the bottom of the entry.
  2. Select EndNote in the dropdown menue that opens.
  3. You can open the file in the download window and the title will be exported in EndNote.
  4. In order to export several titles at a time you need to register and then are able to save entries in the "Merkliste" from where you can export them the same way as desribed above.
EconStor
  1. From the full view of an individual entry the green button at the bottom of the page allows the download of individual records as BibTex-Export .
  2. Start downloading the file, depending on your setup you can open the file during download with EndNote and will be prompted to choose an import filter, this has to be “ BibTex ”.
  3. It can be possible, that you need to download the file and import it manually into Endnote, again selecting the BibTex -filter during import.
  4. Imported data need to checked, special characters corrected. The full text link to the database is included.
eHRAF World Cultures
  1. Only individual entries can be exported. In the results view there is a button named Cite .
  2. Click this and select EndNote at the selection for Export a Citation.
  3. You can open the file in the download window and the title will be exported in EndNote.

  1. Only individual titles can be exported. From the full view click Export to open the download menu.
  2. Select " EndNote " to start the download process.

  4. Please always check correctness of data, especially when articles are being exported!

  1. Navigate to the full view of an entry and scroll down to the Citation. Below that you find in green an icon next to “ Download as .RIS
  2. In the download window click open to prompt import into EndNote.
Fachportal Pädagogik
  1. Open the detailed view of the reference you would like to export.
  2. Scroll down to the end of the bottom of th page to find export options:
  3. Select as system Endnote and click the green button labeled Exportieren .
  4. In the download window select open and the entries will be imported in Endnote.

  1. From the full view click the cite-button (“) on the top right.

  1. Collect titles in the “Merkliste” or export from the full view of individual titles.
  2. Select “ Speichern ” next to the disc symbol at the top of the reference or list.
  3. In the small window select Endnote as format and click the Speichern -button to start download.
  4. NOTE: You need to allow pop-ups for this page to get to the download and you need to store the file locally and then import from endnote with the filter “Endnote Import” to get reference intor your EndNote library.
GESIS search
  1. Only individual entries can be exported choosing Zitieren / Cite in the Actions menue.
  2. In the Pop-up window open the tab Endnote and press the Download link right at the bottom.
  3. In the download window choose open and the entries will automatically be imported.
  4. Please always check data: journal articles are missing the pages, sometimes genres are wrong and data missing.
GBV databases and catalog (K10Plus)
  1. From full view or results list click " Speichern/Drucken " / " save/print info " to export titles.
  2. From the results list select the numbers of titles for export and choose as format Bibligraphic management software: Endnote . Start the download with the "speichern" or "save" button.
  3. In the download window click open to prompt import into EndNote.
Karger Publisher
  1. From the full view click Citation Download in the Article Tools section.
  2. Selecting the format RIS-File starts the download..
  3. You can choose open in the download window and Endnote will automatically open to import data.
  4. Please note: That you can only export journal article data not bibliographical data from books.
kobv Kooperativer Bibliotheksverbund Berlin Brandenburg
  1. Only titles in the Watchlist / Merkliste can be exported, so you need to add them first from the results list.
  2. Open your watchlist (link above the search bar) and select all or individual items for export. As soon as you have made your selection the option Export / Exportieren becomes active in the top menu.
  3. A new window opens in which all preselections fit for the export to EndNote so you simply need to confirm with Download file .
  4. You can choose open in the download window and Endnote will automatically open to import data.
  5. Please note: Only Book data will be transfered properly, for article data you need to add missing information!
KrimDok - Institut für Kriminologie
  1. Individual titles are best exported from the full view by clicking Export Record and in the pulldown select Export to RIS or EndNote .
  2. When wanting to export several titles from the results list select  relevant titles and click the Export button from the menue above the list.
  3. In the following pop-up window you need to select the format EndNote or RIS and start download with the red Export -Button.
  4. You can choose open in the download window and Endnote will automatically open to import data.

  1. Only bookmarked entries can be exported using the Actions to set up download option.

  1. If not logged in, only indivual titles can be exported from the full view by clicking Export Record / Exportieren above the reference. 
  2. Select Export to EndNote to start the download.
  3. You can choose open in the download window and Endnote will automatically open to import data. In case you are prompted to select a filter, choose Endnote Import.
  4. Please always check correctness of data, especially when articles are being exported!
ProQuest - Various Databases (e.g. Dissertations & Theses, Research Library, ERIC, …)
  1. Select individual items from the result list and click the cite-button (“)
  2. A pop-up window opens allowing export to a citation manager. Select “ RIS ” for Endnote.
  3. In the download window click open to prompt import into EndNote.
  4. Please note: if you export individual entries, you will get bothered with reCAPTCHA, so consider collecting titles first.
RePEc - EconPapers
  1. From the full view if an individual title find the option “ Export reference”  and click RIS .
  2. A new window opens in which you can see the selected title in the RIS format and a link labelled Download at the bottom of this window.
  3. In the download window click open to prompt import into EndNote.
Sage
  1. From the full view click the cite-button (“) in the left hand side menue.
  2. A pop-up window showing citation tools with a formated citation on top and a download citation option at the bottom. Take the preselected format “ RIS (ProCite, Reference Manager) ” and click the button Download Citation.
  3. In the download window click open to prompt import into EndNote.
Science
  1. From the article full or abstract view click the cite-button (“) in the top right hand side menue.
  2. A new window opens in which you best selecti RIS (ProCite, Reference Manager) as download format and click Export Citation .
  3. In the browser download window select open and your record will then be imported.
  4. Please note: the year/date is missing in the citation, so please correct!
ScienceDirect (Elsevier)
  1. Only individual journal articles or book chapters can be exported. There is no option to export a book reference, but clicking “About the book” will bring you to all the information you need to add the book manually.
  2. From the full view of a book chapter or journal article click
    “ Cite to open the export window.
    Alternatively from a books’ table of contents use the Export Citations link in the Actions for selected chapters menue.
  3. In the opening frame select Export citation to RIS , which will start the download
  4. In the browser download window you can choose open and titles will be imported into Endnote in very good quality.
Scopus
  1. You can access the database only with licence (via VPN or Proxy)
  2. Choose Export from the full view or for selected records from the results list, or "My list".
  3. In next the window select RIS format and select which informatin you want to have transfered. Afterwards click Export to start the download.
  4. You only need to select this format once as Scopus will remember this option during your visit!.
  5. In the download window choose open and the entries will automatically be imported.
  6. Be aware that first names are abbreviated and Umlaute will be incorrect!
Social Science Open Access Repository (SSOAR)
  1. The export option is so uncomfortable (you need to store copy and store data first) and in any case data need correction, so it is recommended to copy & paste information from the full entry.
Springer electronic Books and Journals For book chapters:
  1. Only individual book chapters can be exported. There is no option to export a book reference, but clicking the tab “About the book/proceedings” will bring you to all the information you need to add the book manually.
  2. From the full view of a chapter or article click Cite protocol to expand the menue and select .ENW - EndNote (but .RIS will work just as well) to start the download.
  3. You can choose open in the download window and Endnote will automatically open to import data.
For journal articles
  1. Only individual articles can be exported clicking Cite this article below the title.
  2. You will land at a citation with a link to Download citation, which will start the download in ris-format.
  3. You can choose open in the download window and Endnote will automatically open to import data.
stabikat (and stabikat+)
  1. From full view or results list click " Speichern " / " Save " to export titles.
  2. From the results list select the numbers of titles for export and choose as format Bibligraphic management software: Endnote . Start the download with the grey "speichern" / “download" button.
  3. In the download window click open to prompt import into EndNote.

SWB (Union Catalog of South West German Library Consortium, BSZ)
  1. From full view or results list click " Save info " to export titles.
  2. From the results list select the numbers of titles for export and choose as format Literaturverwaltung (Endnote Tagged Format) . Start the download with the "save " button.
  3. In the download window click open to prompt import into EndNote.
  4. Please note, that genres are mixed up, so check and correct data!
Taylor & Francis Online
  1. From the results list select relevant references and click Download Citations above the list. From an individual article also find the Download citation link, which is just below the  title information.
  2. In both cases a new window opens, in which RIS (ProCit, Reference Manager) ... is preselected.
  3. Click the big Download citation button to start the process.
  4. In the browser download window select open and the selected record will then be imported.
Torrossa - Casalini Libri
  1. From the full view select the option QUOTE which opens a window displaying the quotation and below the option to Export to ... where you select EndNote .
  2. In the browser download window select open and the selected record will then be imported.
  3. Please always check and correct data, as genre you will find “electronic” book or article, which can be difficult in usage for citations!
University and City Library of Cologne (USB)
  1. Export is only possible from the watch list ( Merkliste ), so you need to mark your titles first with the little icon next to the title in the results list.
  2. BUT if you select more than one title, the download does not work!
  3. Open your watch list (the link is in the top menue bar in the middle) and select the output format for export: RIS (z.B. EndNote) and start the download clicking Save below.
  4. In the browser download window select open and the selected record will then be imported.
Virtuelle Fachbibliothek Recht, ViFa Recht
  1. Export is possible from the full view of an individual record but you can also export several titles by collecting them in the folder first (by pressing the folder icon next to each relevant bibliographical entry) .
  2. Open your selection by clicking Folder at top of the screen or an individual title in clicking on its title.
  3. In the menue on the right hand side click Export .
  4. In a new window Direct Export in RIS Format …. is pre-selected, [Export to EndNote Web is also possible] click Save to start the download .
  5. You can choose open in the download window and Endnote will automatically open to import data.
  6. Please note, that reference types will not always be correct and thus information missing.
Web of Science
  1. Above the results list and individual entries in the full view you find the Export- button.
  2. When the pulldown is open select Save to Endnote desktop   - unless you use the online version and synchronisation and prefer that.
  3. Choose open in the download window and the entries will be imported in very good data quality.
  4. Please note, that from some references you will only get abbreviated first names.
World Atlas of Language Structures Online (WALS)
  1. The export option is so uncomfortable (you need to store copy and store data first) and in any case data need correction, so it is recommended to copy & paste information from the full entry.
