Björn Bremer Joins Central European University

In fall of this year, Björn Bremer will take up an assistant professor post in the Department of Political Science at the Central European University (CEU) in Vienna. CEU is an international private university in Austria with a focus on the humanities, social sciences, business, law, and public policy. Bremer has been a senior researcher in the Political Economy Research Area at the MPIfG since 2019. His research interests lie at the intersection of political economy and comparative politics, and in political behavior. He primarily studies the political processes underlying economic policy decisions. In his book Austerity from the Left, published in May 2023, Bremer explores how austerity became the dominant political response to recession in Europe and was accepted even among the center-left.
