New MPIfG Book: The Rise of Central Banks by Leon Wansleben

A new book by MPIfG research group leader Leon Wansleben has recently been published by Harvard University Press. In The Rise of Central Banks: State Power in Financial Capitalism, the author explores how global finance has gone from crisis to crisis over the past decades, despite the growing influence of central banks and their promise of stability. Drawing for his study on a wealth of original sources that have been neglected in research on the topic to date, Wansleben sheds new light in his book on the origins and consequences of central banks’ influence over economic policy. Leon Wansleben has led the Research Group on the Sociology of Public Finances and Debt at the MPIfG since 2019.
