MPIfG Lectures and Events - Attending Online

Online public events at the MPIfG are open to anyone who is interested in attending; you do, however, need to register. Online events at the MPIfG take place on the digital platform Zoom.

Following registration, you will receive an access link shortly before the event is scheduled to take place. This link is only for your own personal use and should not be forwarded to anyone else or distributed via social media networks.

Lectures will be recorded so that they can be posted as podcasts on the MPIfG’s website.

We hope you will join us for the online public events held by the MPIfG. Please read our Zoom Etiquette, Technical Information, and Data Protection sections below.

If you would like to be invited to future events, you can be added to our mailing list here.

Zoom Etiquette

  • Please use the name you used to register to log in to the event.
  • After you log in, you will be redirected to a waiting room until the event is about to begin.
  • Please make sure that your microphone is on mute and remains muted throughout the event. We would be happy if you were able to participate via video but understand if you prefer to keep your camera switched off for privacy reasons.
  • To see the current speaker as the main image, switch from gallery view to active speaker view (at the upper right of your screen). Clicking on the three points in the upper right of the image of a participant allows you to hide participants without video.
  • We welcome your active participation in the discussion and invite you to submit questions throughout the event using the chat function. You can either ask your question via chat and the moderator will read it out or use the chat to indicate that you wish to be called upon to ask a question. Unfortunately, due to time constraints it may not be possible for all questions to be asked; any unasked questions in the chat will be forwarded to the speaker afterwards.
  • We ask you not to publish any screenshots or similar of the event or to distribute them via social media networks.

Technical Information

  • In order to get the most out of the event, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the basic functions of Zoom in advance, e.g., via the introductory videos available at https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us. Once you have installed the Zoom app, you can take part in a test meeting and check your microphone and speakers before the actual online event: http://zoom.us/test.
  • In order to be able to follow the presentation without disruption or interruption, choose a location with stable WLAN or use a network cable. Connecting via a smartphone is not recommended.
  • If you have technical problems, first try reloading the page. If you cannot start Zoom or are unable to log in, you can contact us by email at helpdesk@mpifg.de
  • For organizational questions, please contact the events team at events@mpifg.de

Data Protection

When you register for an online event, the information you provide will be stored on the MPIfG's servers. Your data will only be used for the purpose of your participation in the event and will not be forwarded to a third party or utilized for another purpose. Your data will be deleted after the event.

Before the event, you will receive a link allowing you access. This link is for your own personal use and should not be forwarded to anyone else or distributed on social media networks.

The event will take place on Zoom. By clicking on the registration link, you consent to using this platform. Further information about Zoom’s data protection policies can be found here.

The name that you give as a participant in the Zoom event will be included on the list of those present and visible to other members of the audience during the event.

We would like to advise you that the event will be recorded for the purpose of later producing an MPIfG podcast. We ask all panel members and members of the audience to agree to this. You will be asked for your consent when you enter the event. This consent is voluntary; you cannot, however, participate in the event without giving it. Only the speakers and discussants will be visible or audible on the podcast. The recordings of the question and answer session and the chat comments will not be used by the MPIfG or forwarded to a third party; they will be deleted as soon as the podcast has been produced. The podcast will be published on the MPIfG's website.

By registering for the event, you give your consent to these terms and conditions. You can withdraw your registration at any time by sending an email to info@mpifg.de.
