Climate Change and Modern Capitalism

Jens Beckert

Anthropogenic climate change is one of the central challenges of our time. The underlying facts have been known for thirty years or more, but societies are too slow and too hesitant in reacting to the unfolding crisis. This project explores why. The research begins with the hypothesis that the power and incentive structures that prevail in the economic, political, and social processes of modern capitalism prevent an adequate response to the climate crisis.
