Abstract

 
Die Internationalisierung der Weltwirtschaft entzieht die Volkswirtschaften dem Zugriff nationaler Regulierung. Diese Entwicklung führt für den Nationalstaat, immer noch der wichtigste Ort demokratischer Politik und sozialer Solidarität, zu Legitimationsproblemen und zur Notwendigkeit einer Neubestimmung seiner bisherigen Zuständigkeiten. Die Folge ist eine Veränderung des Status von Demokratie. Die Autoren dieses Bandes (u.a. Claus Offe, Fritz W. Scharpf, David Held, J.-M. Guéhenno, Michel Albert) behandeln Probleme des Verhältnisses von internationaler Ökonomie und nationaler Demokratie und tragen damit zu einer Demokratietheorie bei, die den veränderten Bedingungen gerecht wird.
 
The internationalization of the economy has severely limited the ability of national governments to regulate their domestic markets. Nation-states, still the focus of democratic policy making and social stability, face new legitimation problems and are forced to redefine their political and economic functions. As a consequence the status of democracy is changing. The authors of this book (among others, Claus Offe, Fritz W. Scharpf, David Held, J.-M. Guéhenno and Michel Albert) examine the problems of the relationship between an international economy and national democracy. They contribute to a theory of democracy that takes the new global conditions into account. Four of the essays are in English.
