Max Planck Online Workshop in Comparative Political Economy (MAX CPE)

Online seminar series

The Max Planck Online Workshop in Comparative Political Economy (MAX CPE) is an online seminar series in Comparative Political Economy, hosted by the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies and coordinated by Pálma Polyák, Sinisa Hadziabdic, Björn Bremer, Dustin Voss, Saila Stausholm, and Lucio Baccaro.

The seminar series was launched in January 2021 to foster exchanges, connections, and conversations in the global community of scholars of Comparative Political Economy (CPE) and beyond. MAX CPE provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of new research in Comparative Political Economy, taking advantage of the online format to transcend the usual territorial boundaries.

Open to comparative political economy scholarship focusing on all geographical and historical contexts, the workshop includes papers on diverse themes such as comparative capitalism, financialization, inequality, labor markets and labor relations, growth models, welfare states and social policy, as well as topics at the intersection between comparative and international political economy.

We are committed to the principles of methodological and theoretical pluralism and have especially encouraged early career scholars, women, people of color, and other under-represented groups in the discipline to contribute.

Seminars are scheduled monthly and last 90 minutes. After a presentation of around 30 minutes, a discussant provides initial comments, followed by time for questions and further comments. Papers will be circulated in advance to registered participants, and we aim to build a network of regular participants.
