Scholar in Residence Program

Announcement [PDF]

Every year the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies (MPIfG) in Cologne invites a leading scholar in comparative and international political economy or economic sociology to spend three to six months in residence at the Institute. As a rule, stays start in October. This will be handled flexibly. Scholars are selected by the director of the MPIfG on the basis of an established record of excellence as well as a current research project in an area close to the core interests of researchers at the Institute. Both nominations and direct applications are possible.
Scholars in Residence are paid a stipend of up to 6,000 euros per month. If the Scholar in Residence is on a paid sabbatical, they receive a stipend of 2,500 euros per month to cover local costs and travel. The Scholar in Residence will have an office at the Institute and enjoy the full range of MPIfG support services. Scholars are expected to give a series of three lectures on a subject of their choice, and generally to participate in the intellectual life of the Institute.
Nominations and applications for the Scholar in Residence fellowship are to be sent to the MPIfG's Managing Director by October 30 for the following year. Applications should include a CV and a brief description of the research to be pursued during your stay at the MPIfG. Address your application to:
