Lea Elsässer receives Wilhelm Liebknecht Prize

MPIfG alumna Lea Elsässer was awarded the Wilhelm Liebknecht Prize of the City of Gießen in November 2019. She was honored for her study on political representation, which shows that there has been a distortion in decisions of the German Bundestag in favor of higher professional and income groups since the 1980s. The study was published by Campus in 2018 as “Wessen Stimme zählt? Soziale und politische Ungleichheit in Deutschland” (Whose vote counts? Social and political inequality in Germany). The 2,500-euro prize is awarded in memory of the co-founder of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Wilhelm Liebknecht, who was born in Gießen in 1826. It goes to outstanding historical and social science publications that are dedicated to the social foundations of democratic society. Lea Elsässer is a research fellow at the Institute of Political Science of the University of Münster and the Institute of Socioeconomics of the University of Duisburg-Essen. about the book (in German)
