Andreas Eisl Awarded Doctorate

In January 2023, Andreas Eisl successfully defended his doctoral dissertation at Sciences Po, Paris. In “The Politics of Budgetary Constraints: An Ideational Explanation for the Variation in National Fiscal Frameworks in the Eurozone” he explores these sets of fiscal rules and institutions and the significant and persistent variation that exists in their stringency, design, and timing between different countries in the eurozone. His research sets out to explain this variation and contributes to a deeper understanding of the current debate on European fiscal framework reform. Andreas Eisl was a doctoral student on the joint cotutelle program between Sciences Po, Paris, and the International Max Planck Research School on the Social and Political Constitution of the Economy (IMPRS-SPCE) in Cologne from 2016 to 2019. He is currently a research fellow on European economic policy at the Jacques Delors Institute in Paris, where his main research interests are questions of EU economic governance, macroeconomic and budgetary policy-making, public debt, and investment.
