Who Does the Future Belong to? MPIfG Annual Colloquium 2016

Visions of the future are a prerequisite of capitalist action. The collective expectations of actors are the foundation for economic dynamics. Expert prognoses stoke expectations for the future, but the future itself remains uncertain. The Ninth Annual Colloquium of the MPIfG on November 17-18, 2016, with over a hundred participants from academia, business and politics, was dedicated to these topics. One of the highlights was the keynote address by Colin Crouch, External Scientific Member of the MPIfG. According to Crouch, democracy depends on the balance between reason and passion in a society. The panel discussion with Norbert Kluge (Hans Böckler Foundation), Erika Mezger (Eurofound), Wolfgang Schroeder (University of Kassel) and Rainer Zugehör (MovingImage24) posed the question: "Do we still need representative participation?" The Annual Colloquium is hosted jointly by the Institute and the Society of Friends and Former Associates of the MPIfG. The next Annual Colloquium will be held on November 16-17, 2017 in Cologne.
