Journalists in Residence 2016: Daniel Bax and Verena Gonsch

Daniel Bax, migration and integration correspondent at the German daily newspaper "taz," and Verena Gonsch from the radio station "NDR Info" are the MPIfG Journalists in Residence in Fall/Winter 2016. Daniel Bax will investigate the reasons underlying the current gains made by left- or right-wing populists and identify differences between populist movements in a range of countries and regions across the world. Verena Gonsch will investigate the changes digitization is bringing to German society. Skepticism vis-à-vis new media and digital technology is more prevalent in Germany than in other Western industrialized countries. How are innovations received here, and how do counter-movements develop that are reflected in a return to more traditional communication patterns? With its Journalist in Residence fellowships, the MPIfG offers journalists stays at the institute lasting up to three months. The program aims to strengthen the dialog between the social sciences and society and to promote journalism on social and political issues. more information (in German)
