Irina España Awarded Doctorate

Irina España was awarded her doctorate from the University of Cologne in June 2016. Her dissertation, Actors, Institutional Change and Reproduction: The Colombian Case of Racial Exclusion and Local Socio-economic Performance 1886-1950, draws on theories of historical institutionalism. In it, she shows that the long-term dynamics among collective actors are a mechanism through which the informal institution of racial exclusion constrains the provision of public goods and contemporary progress. Irina España was a doctoral student at the International Max Planck Research School on the Social and Political Constitution of the Economy (IMPRS-SPCE) in Cologne from October 2012 until March 2016 and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the MPIfG.
