Five researchers have received postdoctoral fellowships to work at the MPIfG from October 2011 to September 2012. Alexandre Afonso comes to the institute from the European University Institute in Florence and is examining cross-border labor mobility and labor relations in Western Europe. Philip Balsiger, from the University of Lausanne, is investigating how social movements affect markets. Alima Bissenova, from Cornell University, is comparing crisis management in authoritarian and democratic countries. Todd Arthur Bridges, from Brown University, is researching legal and extra-legal governance structures in a shadow financial market. Matías Dewey, from Institute of Latin American Studies at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg, is looking at the protected areas of illegal markets.Jongchul Kim, from York University in Toronto, is examining the evolution and ontology of the international monetary system. The MPIfG awards fellowship to postdoctoral researchers every year.
