The 2011 Annual MPIfG Colloquium held on November 17-18 addressed issues of "Instability and Uncertainty." With some ninety people in attendance, the first day of the Colloquium highlighted the relationship between generating and solving problems in light of international interdependence and transnational regulation. Philipp Genschel focused on the example of taxation in his talk on transnational regulation. The second day began with a talk by Patrick Le Galès entitled "Is the State Becoming Unstable Too?" followed by a panel discussion about the themes to be investigated at the Max Planck Sciences Po Centre that will be opening in Paris in 2012. The Annual Colloquium is sponsored jointly by the institute and the Society of Friends and Former Associates of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies.
