Sascha Münnich has been recognized with the Max Planck Society's Otto Hahn Medal for his dissertation on the development of social insurance for the unemployed and the emergence of welfare state institutions. Each year, the Max Planck Society honors a small number of young researchers from its institutes with this award for their outstanding scholarly achievement. The medal comes with a cash prize and is intended to motivate especially gifted young researchers to pursue careers in research or higher education. The medal will be awarded during the MPG General Meeting in Hannover in June 2010. Sascha Münnich has been a research fellow at the MPIfG since 2010 and was a doctoral student at the institute from 2005 to 2009.
