IMPRS-SPCE/Sciences Po Doctoral Seminar on the Sociology of Markets
Over twenty doctoral fellows, from the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris and the International Max Planck Research School on the Social and Political Constitution of the Economy (IMPRS-SPCE) at the MPIfG, assembled in Cologne for a residential seminar on the sociology of markets from January 11-15, 2010. The seminar was conducted by Jens Beckert and Pierre François, a researcher at the Centre de Sociologie des Organisations (CSO) in Paris. Participants studied various aspects of the sociology of markets, beginning with the historical and conceptual perspectives of markets and continuing on through market competition, determination of value and cooperation in markets, and a comparison of the sociology of markets and sociological theory. The MPIfG and Sciences Po university in Paris are partner institutions that are continually expanding their joint education and training programs at the doctoral level.
