"Challenges for Democracy" Lecture Series

Can democracy live up to the challenges it faces? Four researchers will discuss this question in the lecture series "Challenges for Democracy" at the MPIfG during the 2009 summer semester. Lectures by Oscar W. Gabriel, (University of Stuttgart) on the subject of political trust and the acceptance of welfare-state reforms in Germany, and Colin Hay (University of Sheffield) on "Why We Still Hate Politics" took place in April and May 2009. The series will continue on June 25 with a lecture from Peter Mair (European University Institute) on "Representative versus Responsible Government" and concludes on July 9 with a lecture by Gary S. Schaal (University of Hamburg) on the transformation of what is considered political. More
