First Newsletter "Gesellschaftsforschung" Published by MPIfG
The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies has published the first issue of its Newsletter "Gesellschaftsforschung." As of 2009, the institute will publish information about its research projects and results, publications and events three times a year. Each issue will feature a topic of current public interest. The Newsletter, which will be published in German, will be distributed as a PDF file via email.
Published in February 2009, the first issue features the "Aging Society." The welfare state has to change to adapt to the aging of the German population. But some fear that older voters, thanks to their strong representation at the polls and in interest organizations, could oppose reforms that might be to their disadvantage. But is there even such a thing as "old people" as an interest group? The researchers at the MPIfG address this question and propose innovative policies for aging societies.
